Besides helping in osteoporosis therapy are the calcium, but further, vital functions for the human body: Because calcium makes up together with phosphate the major component of bones and teeth, is a sufficient supply of the body with calcium, essential for dental health.

Calcium is also involved in blood clotting and plays a central role in the functioning of the immune system: It controls enzyme reactions in the maintenance of the acid-base equilibrium involved and regulates the transmission of impulses from nerves to muscles and hormones to corresponding regions of the body. Calcium is therefore suitable for the function of the muscles as well as "nerves" of great importance.
How much calcium your body needs varies depending on age and health. Recommendations assume that healthy adults (men and women) to 1,000 mg of calcium a day should eat. This is equivalent to 800 ml of milk. Pregnant women need 1200-1500 mg of calcium per day, post-menopausal women also 1,500 mg daily.
